Our story
Islander Connect is a Pacific Islander community marketplace — built by people from the Marianas, for the diaspora and for back home. Stores, shipping, language, relief, all in one place that actually belongs to us.
What we stand on
Ownership over dependency
Pacific Islander creators built the work. The platform should belong to the community, not extract from it.
Diaspora ↔ islands, direct
Whether you are in Saipan or Oregon or Hawai‘i, the same store, the same checkout, the same trust.
Cultural infrastructure, not just commerce
A Refaluwasch dictionary, a CNMI business directory, typhoon relief tooling — what a Pacific platform actually needs.
AI in our voice, on our terms
Isla speaks the language. She helps shoppers, sellers, and the community without turning us into anyone else’s product.
The reason
“I have laid the stick that connects people together. Now it is up to you, your generation and the generations to come, to build upon that stick a bridge…”
Pius “Mau” Piailug — Refaluwasch master navigator of Satawal
Every page on this platform is, in some way, an answer to that line. We did not start a marketplace. We picked up the stick.
The people building it
Pacific Islander leadership, top to bottom.
Nate Roppul
Founder & CEO
“I watched Pacific Islander creators grind on platforms that were never designed for them — taking the fees, giving none of the equity. I knew the talent was here. I knew the buyers were here. What was missing was a marketplace that actually belonged to us. That's what we're building.”
Weijia Roppul
COO
“What convinced me wasn't a business plan. It was seeing how much energy this community was already spending just to be visible on platforms that weren't built for them. If we could take even a fraction of that energy and redirect it into something they owned — that's a different kind of economy.”
Eipérang (Mike Towai)
Co-Founder & Impact Advisor
Refaluwasch Journal of Knowledge and Culture
“Culture and economy have never been separate for our people. The way we trade, the way we exchange, the way we build — it's all tied to who we are. Islander Connect gives us a place to do that on our own terms, and that matters more than any feature or any metric.”
Ed Taylor
Marketing Director
“Pacific Islander businesses have always had a story worth telling. What they've never had is the platform to tell it at scale. I'm here because I believe that when the world actually sees what this community is building, the demand will be real — and we'll be ready.”
